Our Detroit Prep Playground

It’s finally here and perfect for our DP Crew and neighbors.

This video, which launched our campaign in the summer of 2019 (before we even moved into our #DPforeverhome!), shares a little more context about how we got here!

After years of fundraising, planning, and dreaming up the perfect playground with the help of our students, families, and neighbors, our playground is finally installed!

A large blue and orange play structure with a large blue shade covering being played on by lots of children. There is a street of houses in the background.

Isn’t it perfect?

It has so many fun elements for our students and neighbors to play on, including a slide, monkey bars, a rock climbing wall, a we-saw, sun shade, and more. It’s big, beautiful, and inclusive!

PLAY IS IMPORTANT.

The importance of play to young children’s healthy and holistic development and learning has been documented by researchers for years. Through play time, students are encouraged to explore their surroundings, navigate relationships and social situations, and learn what it means to be part of a collective group. Positive peer play interactions are associated with skills that support children’s engagement in learning activities and experiences in the classroom, such as self-regulation, cognitive flexibility, language, perspective taking, problem solving, and creativity.
